Duties

Help
  • Ensure security violations and incidents are reported to appropriate authorities and assist with investigations.
  • Conduct reviews of threats and vulnerabilities in the network.
  • Disseminate Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs) to System Administrators (SAs) and Information Assurance Security Officers (IASO).
  • Publish the Network Security Architecture Plan and Policy for operations of the Regional Support Command (RSC) installations network and for networks at subordinate installations.
  • Validate and updates information assurance depth programs.
  • Ensure all users receive initial and annual Information Assurance (IA) awareness training, and are authorized on a need-to-know only basis before granting access to the command information systems.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This position has a basic requirement of successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, a three year graduate degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

Related experience that demonstrates each of the four competencies below.

(1) Attention to Detail: A successful candidate for the position must demonstrate their extensive knowledge in Cyber Security Concepts and Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements. Applicant must be capable of providing detailed descriptions of problems, possible outcomes or consequences, and a proposed solution according to the DoD and Army Guideline. Applicant must be able to document findings accurately in required platforms, prepare policies and plans, read, interpret and process documentation related to cyber security, draft memorandums, and services agreements between organizations. Finalized work must be within Army Standards before reaching the approval authority.
(2) Customer Service: A successful candidate should understand the needs of the customer and provide the necessary guidance to solve the issue within the established standards. Applicant must demonstrate the ability to provide the technical expertise on Cyber Security and RMF to customers and follow-up on the requests in a timely manner placing customer satisfaction first. The applicant should have the ability to provide solutions convenient to the customer within the set guidelines.
(3) Oral Communication: A successful candidate must demonstrate their ability to express technical information to individuals or groups effectively by identifying the audience and their expertise. The applicant must be able to provide clear guidance to the technical team to execute actions to enhance Information System Security. The applicant must be able to provide briefings and presentations to supervisors in a clear, concise, and in a respectful manner regardless of the rank or grade.
(4) Problem Solving: A successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to think outside of the box to find solutions while staying within the established guidelines. The applicant must analyze the problem at hand, determine the accuracy and relevancy of information presented, and use sound judgement to generate and evaluate alternative solutions before making recommendations. The applicant must have the ability to coordinate actions in a group setting or execute independently while taking responsibility for their actions.

AND

This position also requires specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working with implementing guidance and procedures in accordance with information system security regulations; performing inspections on security systems for compliance; identifying security system vulnerabilities and recommending corrective actions; developing security system training for organization; and maintaining automated systems and network security. Specialized experience must also demonstrate competencies in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
