Help

As an IT Specialist (Network) you will:

  • Lead the planning, engineering, and design of IT network products, services, and projects that have significant impacts to organization-wide ability to utilize IT network resources to accomplish mission.
  • Lead (and oversee execution by contract staff) configuration and installation of various IT network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, remote access, Quality of Service (QoS), Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), access control lists (ACL), network subnets and trunking).
  • Plan and lead performance of IT network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations.
  • Monitor IT network performance and ensure system availability and reliability meet agency requirements.
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
  • Lead Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical and troubleshooting support to resolve IT network-related issues; primary point of contact to keep the Director, IT Operations Division aware of all network issues that may or may not affect end users.
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the IT network infrastructure.
  • Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company's security team.
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.

BASIC REQUIREMENT
For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT
In addition to the Basic Requirement listed above, you must meet the required specialized experience listed below.
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your experience in all of the following:
1) Experience in the installation, operations, monitoring, and maintenance of IT network devices (hardware, software, and firmware);
2) Experience in implementing technical projects related to IT networks; and
3) Experience investigating and resolving IT network issues affecting normal operational state.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
