As a/an Writer-Editor, you will:

  • Review and edit OA audit reports, highlights and other pertinent documents and publications.
  • Serve as an expert on writing, editing, and technical standards and Participate in key meetings with teams, managers, and senior leaders on report focus, message, and progress.
  • Advise OA staff on message development, report writing, design, and execution of visuals, as well as provide editorial support for a variety of written products and make revisions and/or recommendations to improve logic, quality, and impact.
  • Ensure that OA reports, publications, etc. meet the appropriate techniques, methodologies, terminology, and guidelines provided by the Office Inspector General Executive Secretariat, United States Printing Office Style Manual, the Associated Press and or Chicago Manual of Style by reviewing and editing these documents for proper format, grammar punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure, and use of vocabulary consistent with the aforementioned standards.
  • Interpret complex concepts and themes in documents prepared by the OA staff reconciling contradictions in the information presented, using expository narrative to develop balanced treatments of controversial matters in the presentation of conflicting points of views.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized for this position includes:

  • Editing reports and technical documents for publication, including those developed by others; AND
  • Advising others on content development and publishing policies and practices; AND
  • Identifying and addressing communication needs with internal and external stakeholders.
Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (CONTINUED):
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
