The attorney may engage in any one of the primary missions of OSC, including evaluating and referring whistleblower disclosures for investigation, investigating and prosecuting complaints of prohibited personnel practices, investigating and prosecuting violations of the Hatch Act, and prosecuting USERRA violations. In the course of carrying out these duties, the attorney may be assigned to conduct investigations, conduct complex legal research and draft legal memoranda, prepare cases for litigation before the Merit Systems Protection Board, and appear as amici in federal court. The position may require that the attorney conduct witness interviews, discovery, and legal research; prepare pleadings, briefs, reports of investigation and other reports and memoranda; manage diverse caseloads, mediate and settle cases, and advise the Special Counsel and senior leaders regarding case dispositions and legal issues that involve federal personnel law, constitutional law, labor and employment law, administrative law, and civil procedure.
Education: You MUST provide transcripts, which may be unofficial, as long as it contains a full listing of courses, credit earned, grade and grade-point-average, subject area, degree(s) earned, and dates of award. Your transcript must come from a nationally accredited educational institution recognized by the Department of Education. All materials must be submitted by the closing date of the announcement.

The U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) has as its primary mission promoting accountability, integrity, and fairness in the Federal workplace by protecting employees and applicants against Prohibited Personnel Practices (PPPs), particularly from reprisal for whistle blowing. (5 U.S.C. 2302). The agency also operates as a secure channel for federal whistle blower disclosures of violations of law, rule or regulation; gross mismanagement; gross waste of funds; abuse of authority; and substantial and specific danger to public health and safety (5 U.S.C. 1213). In addition, OSC issues advice on the Hatch Act and enforces its restrictions on political activity by government employees (5 U.S.C. 1502, 7321-23). Finally, OSC protects the civilian employment and reemployment rights of military service members under, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act (USERRA), (38 U.S.C. 4301-4335).
