About the Position:
These are full time, part time and intermittent temporary civilian faculty positions at the USAWC as provided under Title 10 USC 4021. Initial appointment may be up to one year. The person(s) selected for this/these position(s) will teach core and elective courses of the Department of Command, Leadership, and Management and its associated programs. Additionally, they will also have service responsibilities to enhance internal curriculum and other USAWC processes.

About the Position:
These are full time, part time and intermittent temporary civilian faculty positions at the USAWC as provided under Title 10 USC 4021. Initial appointment may be up to one year. The person(s) selected for this/these position(s) will teach core and elective courses of the Department of Command, Leadership, and Management and its associated programs. Additionally, they will also have service responsibilities to enhance internal curriculum and other USAWC processes.
Depending on timing and departmental requirements, the person selected is expected to teach the DCLM core courses in Strategic Leadership and/or Defense Management, plus electives.
Teach and facilitate seminar dialogue in the USAWC core course in Strategic Leadership (SL). The SL course reviews individual and organizational factors that have shown to generate and maintain competitive advantage in large organizations.
Teach and facilitate seminar dialogue the USAWC core course in Defense Management. The Defense Management course introduces Department of Defense systems and processes required to generate and prepare military force for the nation.
Design and teach elective courses related to the science or application of leadership and management, particularly at the strategic level.
Contribute to specialized instruction in either strategic leadership or defense management concentration programs. These specialized programs provide more tailored educational experiences for USAWC students.
Serve as a faculty advisor for 4-6 resident students, providing developmentally-focused counsel to mid-career professionals to take most advantage of the academic year.
Serve as a faculty project advisor for 3-5 individual student research projects, providing advice, counsel, and evaluation of research papers.
Engage in internal and external service in support of the department or the USAWC missions.
Operate as a contributing member of a faculty teaching team to integrate required and elective courses across the academic program.
Contribute to a professional, collegial, and inclusive departmental (DCLM) climate that prioritizes student development.
When feasible, engage in research and publishable scholarship that advances knowledge in fields relevant to the Army War College curriculum and/or to leadership development in the U.S. Department of Defense.
Contribute to the Department of Command, Leadership, and Management and the Army War College missions by fulfilling other faculty duties as required.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be rated based on the criteria listed below by a panel of subject matter experts appointed with the purpose of identifying the best-qualified candidates.
1. Demonstrated ability for superlative teaching at the graduate or Senior Service College level.
2. Mastery of theoretical and practical concepts associated with leadership at the senior level and/or enterprise management concepts within the U.S. Department of Defense.
3. Refined oral and written communication skills, including the ability to design and supervise graduate-level courses, direct and assess student research projects, and conduct associated educational programs.
4. Ability to advance knowledge in the fields of strategic leadership and/or defense resource management through research, presentation, and publication.
5. The ability to conceptualize, design, and write lesson plans that support the Department of Command, Leadership, and Management at the U.S. Army War College.
6. Ability to prepare, teach, and lecture on subjects related to strategic leadership and/or defense management.
7. Candidates focused on DCLM's leadership orientation must possess a graduate degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field; a terminal degree is desirable, but not required. Preferred disciplines in the leadership domain include: Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Sociology, Strategic Management, Public Administration, Systems Engineering, and related fields.
8. Candidates focused on DCLM's defense enterprise management orientation should have experience and high levels of performance in defense management staff and executive positions at the strategic level are highly desirable. Examples of this experience include but are not limited to the following: Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Joint, Service Staff, or TRADOC experience with Force Management, the Planning, Programming, Budget, Execution (PPBE) System, the Joint Capabilities Integration Development System (JCIDS), or the Defense Acquisition System (DAS).
