Help

As an Operations Research Analyst (Data Scientist) you will collaborate with customers across the OIG and perform data analytics work to increase the effectiveness of OIG oversight.

As a GS-7 Operations Research Analyst (Data Scientist) your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing basic explorative analyses and statistical analyses on large and complex data.
  • Writing routine code in statistical and data science software applications and programming languages to analyze a wide variety of data.
  • Applying statistical methods, such as basic regression analysis, sampling design and estimation, machine learning, geospatial analysis, time series analysis, or other inferential statistics to solve straightforward research objectives.
  • Developing sound research design to solve basic problems and interpreting the results of those solutions.
  • Conveying methodological approaches, analyses, and information in written form, such as technical reports and literature reviews.
  • Conveying methodological approaches, analyses, and information through oral briefings, consultations, and presentations to technical and nontechnical audiences.
As a GS-9 Operations Research Analyst (Data Scientist) you will be responsible for:
  • Performing explorative analyses and statistical analyses on large and complex data.

  • Conveying methodological approaches, analyses, and information through oral briefings, consultations, and presentations to technical and nontechnical audiences.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses.

Qualifications

GS-7: Applicants must meet the following education requirement: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

AND

Specialized Experience: At the GS-7 grade level, you must have specialized experience in both items listed below:

  • Writing routine code in a widely used statistical/data science software application or equivalent programming languages (e.g., SAS, R, Python, or equivalent) and applying statistical methods, such as basic regression analysis, sampling design and estimation, machine learning, geospatial analysis, time series analysis, or other inferential statistics to solve straightforward research objectives.
GS-9: Applicants must meet the following education requirement: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

AND

Specialized Experience: At the GS-9 grade level, you must have specialized experience in both items listed below:
  • Writing code in a widely used statistical/data science software application or equivalent programming languages (e.g., SAS, R, Python, or equivalent) and applying statistical methods, such as basic regression analysis, sampling design and estimation, machine learning, geospatial analysis, time series analysis, or other inferential statistics to solve research objectives.
(Note: Such experience is paid or unpaid experience that has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties needed to fulfill the position.)
