Duties

Help
  • Responsible for input to various exercise events which includes concept development and design, planning and preparation, exercise augmentation and documentation of lessons learned.
  • Responsible for facilitating the ongoing, long-term improvement of organizational performance, through a sound training management program. Helps identify training shortfalls.
  • Responsible for designing and developing training events that cover all aspects of defense support to civil authorities, as appropriate.
  • Responsible for planning, designing, organizing, participating, and executing training and exercises.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to deploy within the organization on short notice (in under 24 hours).
  • Must be able to wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) or clothing such as boots, goggles, gloves, chemical mask and other safety equipment as required.
  • Incumbent will be expected to function in adverse climatic conditions and under intense physical and mental stress.
  • As a pre-condition of employment, any and all incumbents of this position must pass a physical examination.
  • Must be able to complete assigned duties to include a short duration walk in full MOPP equipment in a simulated or actual contaminated environment under mission demand timelines.
  • Participation in the DOD/DA Immunization program to include live vaccinations as required by DOD/DA policy.
  • Must be able to obtain/hold a SECRET security clearance. Failure to satisfactory complete any aspect of this process is grounds for termination.
  • Position requires travel up to 25% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes coordinates, performs, and directs tasks involving the training management function; development, recommendation, and promulgation of a cohesive and dynamic training strategy for the organization; assists with managing the training program from an operational perspective; ensure the training program is comprehensive and vertically integrated to achieve readiness at all organizational layers; Systematically ensures that all joint and service component training is mapped to the mission essential task list; facilitating the ongoing, long-term improvement of organizational performance, through a sound training management program; help identify training shortfalls and facilitates the design and development of a comprehensive training program that synchronizes and integrates the training efforts of the organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

  • Required Deployment information: Ready to deploy on short notice with the NORTHCOM AOR by multiple means of ground and air transportation, as directed by the Secretary of Defense in response to a Presidential Disaster Declaration involving acts of terrorism, natural disasters, homeland defense and civil support contingency plans and general war. In performing above duties, overtime and shift work may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Employees may be required to wear an electronic pager and maintain a working telephone at all times.
  • Highly desired is a candidate with a background and a general knowledge of: JTF organizations and functions, multi-functional logistics, medical operations, engineer operations, aviation task force operations, and be familiar with existing and emerging national emergency management and disaster response doctrine and policy.
  • Must be able to put on mission oriented protective posture mask, clothing and equipment, or and protective equipment that guards against chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high explosive hazards. Must be able to complete assigned duties to include a short duration walk in full MOPP equipment in a simulated or actual contaminated environment under mission demand timelines.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
