The incumbent is a clinical social worker assigned to a North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System in the Mental Health Clinic located in Gainesville, FL.
Conducts psychosocial/mental health assessments to identify needs and formulate a patient centered treatment plan with the Veteran to meet needs and goals.
Responsible for the development of patient centered treatment plans and developing achievable treatment goals with the Veteran and other significant others.
Provides individual and group psychotherapy using evidence based modalities
Responsible for planning and organizing work, coordinating with clinical interdisciplinary team members, other professional and clinical staff, and management personnel.
Responsible for providing, reviewing and coordinating all phases of continuing care for Veterans in the Mental Health Clinic
Serves as the subject matter expert on VA and community resources.
Provides patient education to Veterans and family members on the available services and assists them in establishing the appropriate referrals based on the Veteran's preference or other decision maker
Responsible for developing, updating and using current social worker resources within VA and community social service programs to ensure that Veterans are receiving education, information and referrals to current and viable resources to meet their needs.
Develops and executes crisis management treatment plans in a timely, effective and efficient manner.
Behavioral Health Integration Program (BHIP)
Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services in an outpatient setting.
Provides a full range of evidence-based interventions for Veterans and other eligible patients through a variety of modalities including evidence-based practices and adjunctive interventions including but not necessarily limited to individual and group psychotherapy, family therapy, consultation, rehabilitation, and psycho-education.
Diagnoses mental disorders, and conducts psychological and/or cognitive function assessments and neuropsychological screenings.
Participates in the social work training program, social work diversity committee, or other special interest committee or work group.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part).
Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a Masters of Social Work.
Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/.

Grade Determinations: Social Worker, GS-11
Experience and Licensure. Appointment to the GS-11 grade level requires completion of a minimum of one year of post-MSW experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the field of health care or other social work-related settings, (VA or non- VA experience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. OR
Education. In addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required one year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting.

Skill in independently implementing different treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals.
Ability to provide consultation services to new social workers, social work graduate students, and other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Preferred Experience: Licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level with Mental Health experience and qualification to provide evidenced based therapies.
