•Undergraduate students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited institution AND have earned at least 90 credit hours. •Graduate students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited institution.
You will elect at the time of your application to participate in either a law enforcement or non-law enforcementinternship.
Law Enforcement Internship: Designed for students who are interested in a career in law enforcement, you will be assigned a mentor from one of the FLETC training divisions. Half of your time will be spent auditing basic or advanced training programs. The remaining half of your time will be spent working on meaningful training-related research and writing projects under the guidance of your mentor.
Non-Law Enforcement Internship: Designed for students who have a desire to work in the public sector. Under the guidance of a mentor, you will receive on-the-job experience in a professional work environment focused on the FLETC's business fields. In addition, you will receive opportunities to audit the FLETC's numerous basic or advanced training programs.
You must successfully pass a background investigation.

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, DHS requires every student to be reliable and trustworthy. College Intern Program (CIP) is a 12-week program hosted by FLETC that is open to U.S. citizens who are either undergraduate student's with at least 90 semester hours (135 quarter hours) or graduate students. CIP participants are unpaid and do not receive a stipend or per diem.
Participants are solely responsible for any and all travel arrangements and expenses.
Participants expend half of their time auditing the training courses at their respective location, while the remaining half of their time is used to support their assigned branch, division, or directorate in furthering mission goals.
Housing and meals are provided to participants selected for the Artesia, New Mexico; Charleston, South Carolina; and Glynco, Georgia, locations only.
Participants may be selected for the Washington, DC and Cheltenham, Maryland locations, but will be responsible for their own housing and meals for those specific locations.
College credit(s) may be granted to the participant by their academic institution once they successfully complete the program.
