Duties

Help
  • As a Supervisory Medical Records Administration, you will prepare, maintain, review and revise procedural manuals as necessary for the department, division and the command.
  • Develop medical records policies and procedures and provide advice on the use of medical records.
  • Set up and monitor internal quality improvement program.
  • Audit medical records to ensure proper coding, sequencing of diagnoses and procedures, and sufficient documentation to support codes assigned.
  • Conduct quality improvement reviews utilizing various electronic medical record documentation programs.
  • Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities such as assigning/monitoring workload, evaluating performance, training, mentoring/coaching subordinates, identifying training needs of employees, and taking corrective action when required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to 31 July 2025. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
  • This is an obligated position to an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on return rights based on an overseas tour.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Subject to work Weekends/Holidays.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and/ or Experience. requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: providing advise on the use of medical records to professional staff members on all phases of inpatient or outpatient medical records; solving problems involving different aspects of medical records relating to coding, utilization management, documentation, risk management, and/or performance improvement; preparing statistical reports, documentation reviews and/or other reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: such as Medical Records Administration, Health Information Management. OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (You must provide your Transcript).

This position is a TERM : the initial appointment Not to Exceed 31 July 2025. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent.

This position is obligated. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights based on active military service, compensable injury or disability when fully recovered, or return rights based on having served an overseas tour(s). When a position is obligated to an employee it means that he/she has an entitlement to that position. When an obligated position is filled either temporarily or permanently, the selected employee is required to sign an agreement acknowledging that they are aware of the obligation and accepts the fact that they may be displaced under reduction in force procedures at a later time.
