Duties

Help

The following are the duties of this position at the CN-53, broadly equivalent to the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • As a UX designer, assignments include work across diverse teams to understand project constraints and goals, facilitate discovery workshops, synthesize user research and data analytics, and design interfaces and interactions.
  • Interface with program officials at all levels throughout the CFPB to identify and determine product or process requirements, help establish the scope of the work, identify trade-offs, and plan complex project activities.
  • Work as part of a distributed Agile Scrum team, support sprint and project planning efforts, provide effort estimates, measure progress and productivity, and contribute to or authos artifacts such as project strategy documents, sprint review presentations, team norms and vision, or other presentations as needed.
  • Structure and facilitate design discovery sessions and stakeholder workshops. Conduct qualitative and quantitative user research and translate findings into actionable recommendations.

Selectees living in the Washington, D.C. locality pay area will have their duty station listed as CFPB Headquarters. Selectees living outside the Washington, D.C. locality pay area will have their duty station listed as their home address. The locality pay you receive if outside the D.C. locality pay area will depend on your home address.

Key Requirements:

  • Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience for CN-53: To qualify at CN-53, you must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower band/grade (CN-52, GS-12 or equivalent) in the Federal service. For this position specialized experience is defined as:

- Creating project deliverables (e.g., user goals, user journeys, site maps, wireframes, and prototypes) that support project discussions and decisions; AND
- Leading decision-making discussions with fellow designers, developers, product managers, or clients to distill requirements, prioritize functionality, OR determine user workflows; AND
- Designing and conducting usability and user testing, including moderating interview sessions; AND
- Leading discovery phase activities such as participatory design workshops, customer journey mapping, stakeholder interviews, synthesis of web analytics, OR content auditing.

Specialized Experience for CN-52: To qualify at CN-52, you must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower band/grade (CN-51, GS-11 or equivalent) in the Federal service. For this position specialized experience is defined as:

- Creating project deliverables (e.g., user goals, user journeys, site maps, wireframes, and prototypes) that support project discussions and decisions; AND
- Working with fellow designers, developers, product managers, or clients to distill requirements, prioritize functionality, OR determine user workflows; AND
- Supporting and participating in usability and user testing; AND
- Supporting discovery phase activities such as participatory design workshops, customer journey mapping, stakeholder interviews, synthesis of web analytics, OR content auditing.

In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
