An Electrical Worker performs the following tasks when they receive specific assignments and detailed instructions: Inspects tests, modifies, and installs electrical lighting and power circuits and equipment. Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Inspect, test, modify and install electrical lighting and power circuits and equipment.
  • Isolate defects in wiring switches and motors using test instruments such as ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter and test lamp.
  • Examine elements of systems to locate faults such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires or loose connections.
  • Erect or suspend scaffolding in the performance of duties and is responsible for the proper care and maintenance of their tools and equipment.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are properly functioning and are safe to use.
  • Construct necessary dust barriers and or block off areas as needed for the safety and protection of patients, staff, visitors and equipment.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 1:30 pm - 10:00 pm

EXPERIENCE: At least one year of electrical experience is preferred not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Employee will be required to stand and walk most of the working day, must be able to stoop, bent, crouch and balance in difficult working positions. Frequently climbs and works from ladders. Lifts and carries tools and equipment up to 40 pounds. Employee will request assistance when needed to avoid injury. Incumbent must have hand and finger dexterity and have color perception to distinguish color coded wiring.

Working Conditions: Employee will work within the medical facility's operating functions and must use all appropriate safety tools, clothing, etc. to protect self, other staff visitors and patients. Other assignments can be in remote areas such as sub-basements, machinery rooms, rooftops, roads and walkways.

Work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Employee is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in mad weather and in work areas that are noisy. Employee is occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, bums and frequently the possibility of cuts and bruises.

Employee must always be aware of safety hazards and know what action should be taken to avoid them. Employee must observe all local and National Safety Codes. Employee must know and comply with all the safety factors of the trade to prevent fires and injury to self, patients and visitors. Employee must wear a respirator and disposable clothing including coveralls and cover for head, hands, and feet when working in areas of possible asbestos contamination.

There is no educational substitution at this grade level.
