Duties

Help
  • Serve as the team lead for a contract work force of authors and graduate research assistants.
  • Responsible for Historical Research Project Planning.
  • Serve as the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for Histories Directorate.
  • Develop contract packages with the Training and Doctrine Command G-8 and with the Army Contracting Command-Detroit Arsenal.
  • Manage projects by determining scope, from initial conceptualization through final product.
  • Provide subject matter expertise as a recognized authority in assigned area of military history.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Historian:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, plus appropriate experience, or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing, researching, and writing official histories; serving on a review panel for official history projects; contributing to the professional development of other historians; or representing employees' concerns to senior leaders.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
