About the Position: Serves as Environmental Health Technician with the Defense Health Agency (DHA), Small Market and Stand-Alone Organization (SSO), Military Treatment Facility (MTF), West Point, NY.
Responsible for quality assurance sampling of the installation potable water system, recreational water sampling and sanitary oversight, disease vector surveillance, and food service sanitation inspections.
Conduct environmental health and sanitation surveys, identify potential health hazards, and make recommendations to correct deficiencies and reduce risk associated with identified hazards.
Collect and analyze statistical data impacting environmental health issues.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifications
This position may be filled by temporary promotion, temporary reassignment, or temporary change to lower grade not to exceed 1 year. This position is a temporary position and may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years.
This position is obligated. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights based on active military service, compensable injury or disability when fully recovered, return rights based on having served an overseas tour(s), and may also cover employees who have been on extended leave without pay under certain circumstances. During the obligation period, the position may be filled on a temporary or permanent basis. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes conducting environmental health sanitation surveys or investigations; identifying potential health hazards; and making recommendations to correct deficiencies and reduce risks.

Education: A master's or equivalent graduate or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position such as Environmental Health or a similar field of study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
