This position is being hired in compliance with the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Act to staff the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Claims Office within FEMA. In this position, you will serve as a Supervisory Security Specialist. Typical assignments include:

  • Participating in the development, presentation, implementation and/or monitoring of security programs and practices.
  • Supervising and/or participating in general money management/budgeting and/or contract administration.
  • Assisted in the administration of security contracts and budgeting financial responsibilities.
  • Identifying security vulnerabilities/threats and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Experience in applying effective management principles, methods and practices including establishing work assignments, setting priorities, and both formal and informal performance evaluation and development.
  • Coordinating with stakeholders to develop threat assessments and/or mitigation options.

Promotion Potential: Positions hired in compliance with the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Act generally do not have documented promotion potential; however, dependent on an employee’s ability to perform higher level duties, the continuing need for an employee to perform work associated with a higher level position, and administrative recommendation and approval, promotions may be earned.

Qualifications

The qualification requirements listed below must be met within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

You qualify for this position at the IC-13 level (starting salary $99,451) if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (IC-12) in the Federal Service.  This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer; however, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of specialized experience.  Specialized experience for this position includes: 

  • Analyzing, developing, and evaluating security programs; and 
  • Organizing and directing security activities, guard force, and contract management at one or more facilities; and
  • Performing facility access control: examples including issuing and updating privileges on PIVs, HSPD-12, FIPS- 201, Identity Management System, Integrated Security Management System, and background investigations; and 
  • Planning, monitoring and implementing planned improvements for federal and public facility security systems that include access control, alarm forces, security forces, surveillance activities, and photographic identification.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
