Duties Include:
1. Answers telephone and routes calls to appropriate persons or divisions.
2. Monitors office voicemail and maintains office filing system.
3. Performs various administrative assignments.
4. Sorts and distributes incoming mail.
5. Assists visitors to the office who have appointments.
6. Maintains handout literature regarding the Office of the Sergeant at Arms.
7. Monitors delivery and pick-up of materials.
8. Sends, receives, and distributes materials.
9. Drafts and edits correspondence.
10. Orders and maintains inventory of office supplies.
11. Monitors office general email box.
12. Maintains shared office calendars.
13. Assists with special projects.
14. Assists with special events on and off Capitol grounds as needed.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Work Experience and Education:
Bachelor’s degree and three or more years’ experience relevant to this position.
Must be able to successfully pass a criminal history records check.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of policies and procedures of the House of Representatives and United States Capitol Police; excellent oral communication skills; strong written communications skills; strong organizational skills; strong computer skills; detail oriented; professional telephone manner; ability to listen carefully and respond in a tactful and courteous manner to requests and inquiries from Members of Congress, Congressional staff, official business visitors, and the general public; ability to work well under pressure and maintain a professional and courteous work disposition; ability to maintain and troubleshoot office equipment to include telephones, copiers and multi-function printer; and the ability to simultaneously handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
Work Schedule:
Full-time, permanent. Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm.
