Duties

Help

  • Oversees day to day operations of the Auto Skills Center.
  • Monitors the Auto Skills Center program to ensure Navy Program standards are met or exceeded.
  • Conducts vehicle safety inspections on personal vehicles and reports results to the installation Vehicle Control Center (VCC).
  • Assists customers with tool check out and instruction on use of various equipment related to auto repair. Ensures all check-out forms are properly completed and tools are inspected upon return.
  • Collects fees from customers and uses a point of sale (POS) system or other computer program.
  • Administers safety tests before customers use the Auto Skills Center and maintains records of completion.
  • Keeps abreast of new technology in the Auto Skills field and makes recommendations for change.
  • Ensures control and accountability of inventory, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensures equipment and facilities meet all regulatory and safety standards and proper maintenance is performed on all equipment.
  • Keeps work area clean, organized and in safety compliance.
  • Initiates and follows up on maintenance trouble calls to get equipment/facility issues resolved.
  • Ensures purchasing and pricing guidelines are adhered to in accordance with higher level instruction.
  • Plans, organizes and carries out instructional classes.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and environmental requirements in order to maintain a safe and healthful workplace.
  • Submits mishap reports promptly and investigates all accidents.
  • Transports patrons off-base to designated locations for trips, classes or programming.
  • Monitors Auto Skills expenditures, account balances, and financial records.
  • Provides supervisor with necessary figures for quarterly financial updates and the annual report.
  • Uses varied and advanced functions of word processing to prepare, format, modify, edit, and print a variety of letters, memos, and other text documents.
  • Promptly receives and transmits electronic messages with attachments and documents as appropriate.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI) upon hiring and renew every five years.
  • Must be able to work varied work schedules to include weekends and evenings.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver?s license.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • This position is not telework eligible.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, techniques and procedures of operating an Auto Skills Center or similar facility.
  • Knowledge of tools required for basic vehicle repair.
  • Skill in providing customer service based functions.
  • Skill in performing or advising on basic vehicle repair.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and other operating systems used in the program area.
  • Ability to conduct vehicle safety inspections.
  • Ability to operate a cash register in accordance with proper cash handling and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard procedures (DCI-PSS).
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to analyze and prepare clear, concise, and technically sound reports related to work within the Division.
  • Ability to market the program and motivate eligible participants.
  • Ability to develop and/or effectively deliver instructional classes and/or training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
