Duties

Help

The incumbent:
Teacher 0300 (Mixed Secondary)/0320 (Social Studies) Duties:

  • Assists students in completing online work as appropriate.
  • Monitors and tracks the progress of students.
  • Creates, maintains and updates communication log for assigned students.
  • Is available to staff, students and sponsors on an as-needed basis via phone, instant message or other synchronous communication tools.
  • Communicates regularly with students, sponsors, staff and assigned administrators.
  • Collaborates with other educators in required content area digital learning communities (DLCs) to exchange ideas and utilize best practices for online learning.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • Two year trial or probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • You may be required to sign a transportation agreement.
  • You will be required to sign a mobility agreement, be available for worldwide placement, and be willing to rotate to any DoDDS or DDESS location.

Applicant must have at least a Bachelor's Degree.

The Preferred applicant will be certified in grades K-12 in their desired position.

The following positions are available:

Quantico, VA- 0300 Teacher (Mixed Secondary) (0352 Humanities, 0240 MS Mathematics, 0210 MS English, 0310 English).
a. Required- AP English Language and Composition.


Quantico, VA- 0300 Teacher (Mixed Secondary) (0360 Business, 0361 Computer Science).
a. Highly Desirable- Advanced Placement AP Computer Principles or AP Computer Science.

Sobe, Japan- 0320 Teacher (Social Studies)
a. Required Certification- AP Human Geography or AP Macro Economics.

Sobe, Japan- 0300 Teacher (Mixed Secondary) (0361 Computer Science, 0340 Mathematics).
a. Highly Desirable- Advanced Placement AP Computer Principles (9047) or AP Computer Science A or Advanced Placement Calculus: AB or Advanced Placement Calculus BC.

Position Requirements:

0210 Teacher, MS English:
A major in English or a minimum of 24 semester hours in English. A maximum of 5 semester hours in speech and/or journalism may be credited toward meeting this requirement. Course work must include English literature, American literature, the teaching of composition (writing process), and at least 9 upper level semester hours in English.

0240 Teacher, MS Mathematics: A minimum of 24 semester hours in mathematics. Course work must include a minimum of 9 semester hours of upper level course work in mathematics. Only math credits earned from a Mathematics Department are acceptable.

0352 Teacher, Humanities: Must be fully qualified in art, music, English, or social studies. Applicant must have completed a minimum of 9 semester hours in other related fields such as: humanities, art, music, history, drama, theater, literature, dance, or philosophy.

0310 Teacher, English: A major in English or a minimum of 30 semester hours in English. A maximum of 5 semester hours in speech and/or journalism may be counted toward meeting this requirement. Course work must include English literature, American literature, the teaching of composition (writing process), and a minimum of 12 semester hours in upper level English courses.

0340 Teacher, Mathematics: A minimum of 30 semester hours in mathematics is required. Course work must include a minimum of 12 semester hours in upper level mathematics. Only math credits earned from a Mathematics Department are acceptable. A second category is not required.

0360 Teacher, Business: A major in business or a minimum of 30 semester hours in the field of business is required. Course work must include one accounting course, a minimum of 12 semester hours in upper level business courses and a minimum of 9 semester hours in computer science courses.

0361 Teacher, Computer Science: A major in computer science, a minimum of 18 semester hours in computer science or 12 semester hours in computer science with additional qualification as a teacher of mathematics, science, or business is required. Course work must include programming languages such as JAVA, C++, VISUAL BASIC or other equivalent computer programming course work.

0320 Teacher, Social Studies: A major in social studies or a minimum of 30 semester hours in the field of social studies is required. Course work must include U.S. history, world history, political science, and physical geography. A minimum of 12 semester hours of upper level course work in social studies is required. A minimum of 3 semester hours is required in the specific subject area assigned.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
