Duties

Help
  • You will be responsible for the science and technology research program, business management and personnel leadership of the branch.
  • You will provide scientific and technical leadership and guidance to the Laser Plasma Branch.
  • You will develop and execute advanced theoretical and computational models of high-energy laser-matter interactions to assist both NRL experimental programs and the science and technology for laser driven inertial confinement fusion.
  • You will conduct experimental research into in laser driven radiation hydrodynamics, hydrodynamic instabilities of accelerated and imploded targets and their mitigation.
  • You will provide scientific leadership in the areas of inertial confinement fusion and laser driven high energy density physics.
  • You will serve as part of the senior management team for the Plasma Physics Division and plan the Branch research program in consultation with the Superintendent.
  • You will be responsible for the individual administrative tasks pertaining to the Laser Plasma Branch and it's members.

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: This position requires demonstrated experience in the areas of theoretical, computational, and experimental plasma physics, high energy density physics, laser-driven radiation hydrodynamics and instabilities of accelerated and imploded targets and ICF plasmas, deep-UV wavelength lasers, plasma spectroscopy, and in guiding and leading research groups, and coordinating efforts in the field of laser fusion.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11/13) or pay band (NP-03) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: (1) Conducting theoretical and/or experimental research into in laser driven radiation hydrodynamics, hydrodynamic instabilities of accelerated and imploded targets and their mitigation; 2.) Providing scientific and strategic leadership in the areas of inertial confinement fusions and laser driven high energy density physics; 3.) Creating an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment; 4.) Leading large, complex projects that are responsive to sponsor needs and successfully completing program milestones within budget and on schedule.; AND 5.) Maintaining a secure work environment, attending required security trainings and briefings.

Education

Basic Education Requirement:

A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
