Summary

The incumbent will use the techniques of molecular genetics for the study and genetic mapping of composition traits and to analyze gene function. Linked markers will be identified by development and analysis of mapping populations segregating for protein and oil levels. Gene function will be probed with genetic and molecular techniques. Genetic methodologies will be used to create trait combinations and study genetic interactions.

Qualifications

This position requires a recent Ph.D in in Plant Biology or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. This position requires a professional knowledge of molecular biology and genetic approaches for analyzing plant development. Knowledge of plant breeding, genomics, and biochemistry.

Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series 0401

Basic Requirements

  1. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

    OR

  2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
