Duties

Help
  • Plans and supervises the work of employees within the Ambulance Service.
  • Reads new and revises regulations, directives, ect., affecting the work of the Ambulance Service.
  • Prepares work schedules for staff to provide weekly coverage.
  • Provides the full range of Paramedic advanced life support procedures to treat patients on-site or in-transit.
  • Serves as coordinator for continuing education programs for all Ambulance Service personnel.
  • Manages and assigns work schedule to employees.

  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • Position requires a pre-employment physical.
  • Incumbent must hold current certification with the National Registry of "Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) as "EMT-Paramedic".
  • Must be able to hold and maintain a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • May be required to report to work during periods of inclement weather.
  • This position requires you to be able to successfully complete a child care background investigation.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal Influenza Vaccination requirement.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to random drug testing.
  • This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 October 1996, which requires you to obtain Hepatitis B immunization unless exempted by a physician.
  • Must have and maintain a valid state drivers license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain military drivers license.
  • American Heart Association approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. (Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) does not substitute for BLS.)
  • Employee may be required to work evening/night shifts, on-call schedules, extended hours, weekends, holidays and/or other schedules common to hospital operations.
  • Employee must hold and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Must obtain certification within one year of assignment to position.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: For In-Service Applicants Only: Current Army Employees, Other DOD agency employees in the competitive service; Non-DOD employees in the competitive service; Reinstatement; ICTAP Eligible.
One year of specialized experience which includes responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses, conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs, initiating intravenous (IV) therapy, and/or operating a patient transport vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Specialized Experience: For ALL other eligible applicants: VEOA Eligible; 30% Disabled Veterans; Military Spouses.
One year of specialized experience which includes obtaining and recording vital signs and other pertinent medical history; determining proper method to stabilize patients with physical injuries; providing prompt initial care to significantly increase patient viability. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Healthcare Administration.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
