Help


Major Duties but not limited to:

Performs specialized treatment of complex physical or mental illness. The incumbent incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnostic opinion within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice.

Provide individual, group, and family evidence-based psychotherapy and advanced level case management interventions used in the treatment of Veterans with polytrauma injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, visual impairment, post-traumatic stress disorder, addictions, and other serious disorders.

Develops and implements methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in specialty areas, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services.

Demonstrate the ability to design changes based on empirical findings.

Offers consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients treated in specialty areas, rendering professional opinions based on experience and expertise and role modeling effective social work practice skills.

Demonstrates the ability to teach and mentor staff and students in the special area of practice and to provide supervision for licensure or specialty certifications.

Ensure same-day access to care goals are achieved for the clinic

Lead implementation and efficient use of all tele-mental health resources for clinic mental health providers

Develop and implement strategies for seamless transitions between Primary Care and Mental Health.

Monitor mental health consults to ensure all clinical needs are coordinated appropriately.

Develop and maintain a clinical schedule to ensure appropriate coverage during holidays, emergencies, and inclement weather.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • English language proficiency (written and spoken) required.
  • Physical standards - All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position. A favorable physical examination prior to employment may be required.
  • Licensed as a Social Worker (Verification required).
  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) is required
GS-12 Grade Requirements: The candidate must have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty.

Physical Requirements:
Satisfactory physical examination as determined by the Employee Health Unit upon appointment only. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019 (http://vaww1.va.gov/ohrm/HRLibrary/Dir-Policy.htm ). Functional requirements include light lifting under 15 lbs, light carrying 15-44 lbs, walking and standing and standing for up to 8 hours, use of rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, ability to read type written characters (glasses permitted), ability to hear the whispered voice (hearing aid permitted), repeated bending for up to 8 hours, etc.
