Duties

Help

The role of this position is to provide a variety of duties in support of various medical administrative organizations and functions and manages medical administrative functions associated with the primary care program.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

* Registering patients, scheduling, authorization/denial and coordination of services.
* Making administrative determinations for eligibility for services and releases appropriate medical information.
* Receiving visitors and telephone calls to the administrative/patient affairs office.
* Keeping supervisor, medical officers, and clinic calendars current.
* Responding to requests for information such as status of appointments, reports, suspense dates for matters requiring compliance, and similar information readily available from files.
* Performing a variety of administrative support duties, such as making complete arrangements for large conferences, composing complex (and sometimes technical) correspondence, locating and assembling information for various reports, briefings, conferences, etc.
* Producing a variety of written documents (i.e. medical and dental billing processing, 3rd party claims) utilizing varied and advanced word processing software functions, working from handwritten draft, edited copy or electronic files.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. This includes Time-In-Grade requirements for current status employees applying through merit promotion procedures. Status applicants applying for a promotion must have 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the federal service is required. Specialized work experience includes experience in a medical environment which includes experience with medical terminology, medical equipment; Experience in medical and dental billing processes; Experience with medical patient administration, medical records activity including filling, record tracking systems for charge out, retrievals and transfers of records.

* This position requires the ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
