As a Supervisory Chemist (National Water Quality Laboratory Analytical Services Chief) within the Laboratory and Analytical Services Division (LASD) of the Water Mission Area (WMA), some of your duties will include:
The incumbent manages the Inorganic and Organic analytical laboratory programs.
Coordinate liaison activities between the Regions, other Stakeholders and the Laboratory.
Serve as the senior scientist and manager of the LASD, NWQL Analytical Services Chief.
Work with the Quality Assurance Section regarding oversight of laboratory-wide quality standards and practices and implementation of new quality policies.
Develop the annual Pricing Model.
Monitor and maintain budgets to support AS operations, utilizes contracted employees and related processes.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions: Work is performed both in a laboratory and office setting. The position is regularly made more difficult by the need to make provision for significant unsafe or hazardous conditions occurring during performance of work; and control, maintain custody of, safeguard, transport and/or dispose of hazardous materials. Proper personal protective equipment is required when entering laboratory area.

Qualifications
BASICEDUCATIONREQUIREMENT: You must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Chemist.
A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in physics.
**OR B. A combination of education and experience-course work equivalent to a major as shown in "A" above, including at least 30 semester hours or the equivalent in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent of physics, plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above. In addition to the basic education requirement as stated above, applicants must have one year of appropriate professional experience in chemistry that is equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service.
Examples of such experience could include serving as a senior expert involved in the field of chemistry for which technical problem definitions, methods and/or data were highly incomplete, controversial, or uncertain and whose evaluations and recommendations were accepted by others as those of a technical expert in chemistry. At this level, Chemists typically represent an authoritative source of consultation for other scientists and program specialists, are called upon to resolve issues that significantly affect the organization's programs, make long range and controversial proposals and defend their findings and recommendations in public or high level forums.
