Duties

Help

Within the Office of the Chief Data Officer, this position is responsible for performing highly technical work across the DHS enterprise to address the Department's most complex and consequential information and data challenges. This position serves as the principal architect of Data Program products and services, providing related expert consultation in data architecture, data integration, warehousing, and security, and analytical concepts and methodologies across the DHS Enterprise..

Duties performed:

  • Advise efforts to track and integrate data collections, data purchases, databases, physical data models, and linkages between data sets across the DHS.
  • Oversee data standardization related activities to include the preparation, extraction, provisioning, protection, and dissemination of data.
  • Apply senior-level technical expertise to perform cybersecurity work - including the implementation of custom algorithms, methodologies or techniques of data collection, management, and analysis.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirements AND Specialized Experience requirements as noted below.

Basic Requirement:
A. Possession of a Bachelor's or higher degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or a field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

--OR--

B. Possession of a combination of education and experience. This is defined as courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

AND

Specialized Experience:
GS-15: Applicant must demonstrate one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-14 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:

  1. Analyzing data management methods or strategies to recommend improvements;
  2. Executing a data inventory program to promote data exchange development; and
  3. Creating data visualizations based on data analysis to advise internal and external stakeholders.
