Duties

Help
  • Perform all tasks in inter-library loans (ILL), both borrowing and lending. Establish accuracy and/or verify bibliographic data.
  • Determine format of material and selects appropriate database (i.e., ILL subsets of OCLC, databases, DOCLINE) to locate and to fill request; factors in urgency and possible costs of request.
  • Conduct searches for materials needed for emergency patient care and transmit or receive via telefacsimile.
  • Retrieve statistics monthly and provides annual summary.
  • Shelve or oversee shelving of textbooks by call number and journals by title in accordance with National Library of Medicine's classification scheme.
  • Make initial contact with clients coming into, and calling, and emailing the Library

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing customer support to individuals using library or public information services; Use computer software or databases such as DOCLINE, OCLC (On-Line Computer Library Center), and Integrated Library Systems (ILS) to locate and fill requests; prepare and provide monthly/annual statistical reports and summaries. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science (or Studies).

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
