Duties

Help
  • Develops written policies, goals, and objectives governing current and future DTIC search and discovery capabilities and applications.
  • Provides leadership to DTIC in information collection analysis to either modify existing search technologies, purchase or develop enhancements, or work with vendor(s) to create new products to improve the services offered by DTIC.
  • Keeps current with state-of-the-art developments in the fields of information storage and retrieval, strategic searching, and discovery applications for possible incorporation into DTIC services.
  • Collaborates with DTIC?s Customer Support staff to ascertain how customers are using current search and discovery products to retrieve information or prepare bibliographies.
  • Identifies alternate methods to search for and retrieve relevant information to better support customers? research requests.
  • Serves as a liaison to DTIC?s community of users, seeking their collaboration and input on technical subject areas and scientific topics.

Qualifications

Time in Grade: For entry at the GS-13 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-12 or higher grade in the Federal Service.

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-12 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: Experience in developing and implementing search technologies focusing on search and discovery of data residing in structured and unstructured technical repositories. Researching and analyzing search tools and technologies (i.e. Elastic Search, Cognitive services, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, etc.) for data residing in Oracle, SQL and No-SQL environments. Experience utilizing techniques for Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Specialized experience is defined as: Experience in planning, developing and implementing search and discovery technologies (i.e. Elastic Search, Cognitive services, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, etc.) focused on improving the user's search experience and the user's exposure to the most relevant information. Experience evaluating user's needs and understanding search engine implementation and application of user interfaces for search and discovery. Experience providing recommendations on the technical direction of future search technologies.
