The Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center (RHJ VAMC) in partnership with our academic affiliate, the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), seeks to recruit a Chief of Gastroenterology / Hepatology. The physician chosen will play an integral role in the management, growth, and future direction of the Section of Gastroenterology / Hepatology at our growing 1A VAMC facility. This leader will build on the existing strengths and commitment to service excellence, high quality Veteran care, education, and scholarly endeavors in an environment that underscores a respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Responsibilities will include an administrative leadership role in Gastroenterology / Hepatology, promoting and conducting high-quality patient-centric clinical care, mentoring trainees, mid-level providers, and junior faculty, developing an outstanding educational experience for learners of all levels, and conducting scholarly research and quality improvement. An active procedural area is supervised by the Section. A robust ACGME-accredited fellowship training program in Gastroenterology and Hepatology provides ample teaching opportunities. The RHJ VAMC has strong funded programs in health services research, health care disparities, clinical trials, and basic science. Collaboration with Gastroenterology / Hepatology faculty or other investigators at the RHJ VAMC or MUSC is available. Protected time for clinical or basic research can be supported based on interest, previous work, and funding. The Chief will report to the Medicine Service at the VAMC and will have an academic appointment at MUSC, which may include additional clinical, teaching, research, and administrative responsibilities. The division of time between the two medical centers is negotiable. Applicants must have an MD or equivalent degree and must be ABIM Board eligible / certified in Gastroenterology / Hepatology. Previous leadership and VA experience is a strong plus. The appropriate candidate will have experience and training supporting requirements for an academic appointment at a mid-career or higher level.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or 8:00a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
