Duties

Help

  • Lead three or more lifeguards in the performance of lifeguard and related swimming facility duties. Distribute and balance workload in accordance with established directives.
  • Observe the condition and behavior of swimmers to ascertain any potential problems. Foster good relationships with patrons.
  • Use a variety of techniques such as artificial respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid.
  • Clean swimming assigned areas (e.g., bathrooms, decks, locker rooms, showers, pool, etc.) according to the established schedules and instructions.
  • Open and inspect facilities at the beginning of the day and close and secure facilities at the end of the day.
  • Verifies that customers are authorized to use facility by checking appropriate identification. Conducts swimming lessons following prescribed lesson plan.

  • Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds and over.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Must possess a current and valid basic first aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer w/AED certifications. Must possess current and valid lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor certification covering lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills and procedures. CPR certifications must include adult, child and infant procedures. All certifications must remain current during the period of employment. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool safety equipment. Must be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing to instruct other Lifeguards. Must have current immunizations. Must be 18 years of age or older.
