Candidates will be assigned to perform legal duties in support of attorneys on the litigation.
Summary
The Antitrust Division seeks talented and motivated Paralegal Specialists to join its United States v. Google (Advertising Technology) litigation team, one of the Division's most significant and high-profile antitrust litigations. Candidates will be assigned to perform legal duties in support of attorneys on the litigation.
Performing factual research using evidentiary files, library reference materials, corporate records, private and governmental studies, computer databases, internet resources, and other pertinent sources to supply needed factual information for inclusion in memoranda, briefs, and similar documents.
Assisting attorneys in preparing for and conducting interviews with investigative sources and prospective witnesses; taking accurate notes during witness interviews and promptly preparing reliable, concise memoranda from those notes.
Assisting attorneys in preparation for depositions, including working with court reporting agencies, preparing exhibits, and attending depositions.
Performing screening and substantive analysis of significant electronic productions and hard copy materials prior to review by attorneys; coding electronic documents and categorizing hard copy documents in accordance with case priorities.
Assisting technical support staff with the preparation and organization of electronic document review databases; working with technical support staff to resolve issues with incoming productions.
Organizing and maintaining tracking logs for all incoming and outgoing case-related material.
Preparing and organizing charts, graphs, and other materials to be used for internal memoranda and presentations as well as exhibits in court.
Preparing tables of content, indexes, and tables of authorities for legal briefs, memoranda, and other such documents; reviewing and researching citations, footnotes, textual references, and other entries for accuracy.
This opportunity is open to DOJ employees at the GS-7 or GS-9 grade levels. The length of this detail is for six months and may be extended. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply regardless of their home duty station.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Paralegal Specialist, applicants must be current employees with the Department of Justice at the GS-7 or GS-9 and have experience supporting civil or criminal investigations, litigation, or trials.
In particular, experience in the following skills is preferred:
Drafting and editing standard legal documents, reports, and correspondence;
Researching public records;
Using CaseMap, LexisNexis, Relativity, Westlaw, and other research tools;
Applying knowledge of basic legal principles and concepts; and
Tracking and maintaining detailed records.

Additional information
This is a six month reimbursable detail assignment, open to DOJ employees at the GS-7 or GS-9 grade levels. The detail may be extended, if needed. There will be no change in salary. Positions will be filled at employee's current grade/step level.
