Duties

Help
  • Responsible for the implementation and execution of law enforcement programs, policies, and procedures of the Provost Marshal Police Division.
  • Supervise all auxiliary support functions, to include Police Investigations Branch, police officers, armorers, general administrative support, supply, Confinement Liaison Branch and training.
  • Direct law enforcement operations through first line supervisors.
  • Establish objectives for operating elements and assign responsibilities to subordinate police officers based on priorities.
  • Adjust operating schedules, priorities and policies as changes and circumstances warrant.
  • Evaluate Police Department personnel and counsel employees on both work and administrative matters.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy or complete within one year of hire date, unless incumbent has a grandfathered memo or a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Meet the requirements of the Army Regulation for Police Officers and Security Guards 190-56 for continued employment.
  • Complete a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must take and pass an initial Physical Agility Test within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must comply with and maintain all requirements of the Individual Reliability Program.
  • In accordance with AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019 Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning law enforcement work; providing law enforcement technical support; and monitoring compliance with federal, state, local, rules and regulations in areas such as criminal investigation, patrol operations, traffic investigation and/or training development. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes. These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications/re-certification to include less than lethal weapons, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition. (False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment per 18 U.S.C. Section 1001).
  • Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies. The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) includes a provision that imposes requirements on federal agencies, including DoD installations, that employ law enforcement officers. The provision, which is in Section 639 of PL 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after the law takes effect. Felony convictions that occurred before the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement. The law went into effect on January 20, 2001.
