Duties

Help
  • Plans and implements flight training and instruction for rated pilots in accordance with the Aircrew Training Manual (ATM).
  • Adjusts course material to meet individual needs.
  • Trains, instructs and evaluates pilots in operating aircraft using advanced instrument flight techniques.
  • Instructs pilots in methods of instruction and evaluates instructor pilots proficiency to engage in flight instruction.
  • Instructs pilots in operating advanced attack helicopters or heavy multi-engine advanced transport helicopters.
  • Trains pilots in the full range of aircraft maneuvers required in combat situations.
  • Conducts refresher, mission and continuation training in light fixed wing or utility and observer helicopters.
  • Trains pilots in basic and advanced techniques required to support the pilot's unit mission.
  • Conducts training flights, training pilots in advanced flight techniques required in combat situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • If selected individual is in a Permanent status (Tenure 1 or 2) with the Missouri Army National Guard, that individual will retain their Permanent status.
  • If selected individual is in an Indefinite status (Tenure 3) with the Missouri Army National Guard, that individual will retain their Indefinite status.
  • Any other individual selected for this position will be Indefinite.
  • Indefinite employment can be terminated with a 30 day notice.

Qualifications

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Selected candidate will be required to be in a compatible military assignment prior to effective date of placement. Selected candidate must be MOS qualified within 12 months from date of appointment.

Maximum Military Grade - CW5 (W-5)

Minimum Military Grade - WO1 (W-1)

Supervisor must verify that selected individual occupies a compatible military position. Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (grade inversion).

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must be a rated pilot on flying status; based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings. Must possess at least one year on-the-job experience and a competent understanding of the basic principles and concepts of this position.

GS-13 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess two years specialized experience in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft: fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), providing instruction, evaluation and examination of rated pilots and instructor pilots in flying techniques; and experience must reflect qualification competencies in the following three factors: the aircraft operated; the nature and purpose of assignments, and the degree of hazard. The specialized experience must demonstrate your ability to operate a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation; review and analyze mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information; file flight plans and conduct crew briefings; perform aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments; perform or supervise work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations or surveillance and reconnaissance; competently conduct or supervise the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks; and develop plans and policies, monitor operations, and advise commanders; and experience that demonstrates knowledge of flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures; unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with appropriate policies, regulations, and directives.

This position will be filled at the GS-12 trainee grade or the target grade of GS-13. An applicant who is selected at the trainee grade will have potential for promotion to the target grade of GS-12 without further competition. Promotion to full operating/journeyman level will be made after qualifications and eligibility requirements have been met and the incumbent is performing at the higher level in a satisfactory manner.
