The AREA OF CONSIDERATION for this vacancy announcement is U.S. Citizens and Non-Citizens within the Local Commuting Area (defined as 100-mile radius) of Fort Drum, NY. Duties

Help
  • Serves as lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools (may include water parks and/or beach fronts) and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager or pool supervisor
  • Rescues swimmers and administers first aid as required
  • Responsible for assisting in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21
  • Assists with scheduling of staff and programs, tracking inventory and ordering supplies
  • Assists in coaching or preparing the competitive and non-competitive swimming programs as required

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Completed and signed DA Form 3433 is required prior to entrance on duty.
  • This position requires a favorably adjudicated T1/NACI background investigation
  • Must be willing and able to work irregular hours to include Federal holidays, weekends, and evenings
  • Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity
  • In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period
  • Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment
  • May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Possess (or in the process of obtaining) and can maintain the following certifications:
    • Lifeguard (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard or Ellis) AND
    • American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional AND
    • CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent (i.e. Star Guard or Ellis); AND
    • First Aid AND
  • Experience providing customer service to others AND
  • Willing to obtain an American Red Cross "Automated External Defibrillator" (AED) certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associates AED certification within two weeks of reporting for duty AND
  • In addition, for facilities that use Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration" or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard or Ellis Oxygen Administration) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty
HIGHLY DESIRED are those candidates that possess both the minimum qualifications above and:
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard or Ellis Lifeguard Instructor
    Certification;
OR
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard or Ellis Water Safety Instructor
    Certification.

  • Night differential has NOT been authorized by the Garrison Commander and will not be paid to any NF employees
  • A non-foreign area allowance or differential is not granted to employees in payband levels NF-1 and NF-2 since their rates already are based on the prevailing rate.
