As a ELECTRONICS MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-2604-5/8/11, you will perform repair, maintenance, modification, overhaul and installation of complex electronic systems and/or a portion of a complete electronic integrated system involving work on a number of subsystems but not requiring the integration of all operable subsystems into a functional integrated system.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:

  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
  • Adjust or replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry or electronics components, using hand tools or soldering iron.
  • Test electronics units, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine need for adjustment.
  • Perform algebraic and trigonometric formulas to solve work related problems.
  • Maintain system logs or manuals to document testing or operation of equipment.
  • Ensure material and equipment are properly stored, protected and maintained and that funds are not obligated for material or parts without proper justification.
  • Procure parts and maintain inventory and related documentation.
  • Perform preventative maintenance or calibration of equipment or systems.
  • Inspect components of equipment for accurate assembly and installation or for defects, such as loose connections or frayed wires.
  • Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts.

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
    • 15 Series MOS required.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:

  • The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
  • The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
  • The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
  • The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
  • The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.

Military Grades: Enlisted Only - May not exceed the rank of SSG.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of electrical or electronic theory, knowledge of common testing procedures, skill in the use of hand tools of the electronics trade, and skill in reading schematics.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-11 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes 18 months of experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment; Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems; Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment; Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc; Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications. WG-08 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes 12 months of experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment; Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems; Experience in using hand tools, power tools and gauges to make intricate repairs; Experience in using diagnostic and testing equipment; Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications. WG-05 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes 6 months of experience or training in performing simple mechanical installations and adjustments; Experience which demonstrates ability to recognize obvious malfunctions; Experience using common hand tools; Experience that demonstrates the ability to follow written instructions.

In order to be considered qualified, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal service.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
