Duties

Help

Coordinates and arranges transportation appropriate for eligible veterans. Makes travel arrangements for travel by taxi, hired car, ambulance, medivac, and airline transportation. Processes requests for cash travel reimbursement. Maintains financial control points associated with travel and lodging. Updates demographics as needed. Checks all claims for completeness and requests additional information as needed. Establishes pending issues, develops evidence, determines eligibility and entitlement, and grants or denies claim. Audits completed invoices and final certification prior to submission for payment. At the lower grade level, incumbent will perform the duties described for the full performance level position, but with closer supervision and guidance provided.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/06/2023.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4 or meet the Educational, or Educational / Experience requirements. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility or Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials or your application will be rejected as incomplete.

Specialized Experience:

1. Experience, one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4. Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or above the next lower grade level or the equivalent, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include verifying and coordinating travel benefits, processing travel requests, preparing itineraries, or verifying and maintaining reimbursement claims for travel.

2. Education, posses four (4) years of successfully completed education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. 3. Experience / Education, posses the equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and experience to meet total experience requirements for the GS 5. For GS-5 level positions only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Transcripts Required with application (can be unofficial).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work is usually sedentary but may involve some standing and walking to outlying areas. Some bending, lifting, or carrying of light items may be required.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
