This position is located in the Office of Field Operations, Washington Field Division, Washington IV Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) FO, in Washington DC.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the as the primary division intelligence subject matter expert.

As a Supervisory Intelligence Research Specialist, GS-0132-14, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Provides leadership and guidance to the field intelligence group and directs and or coordinates assigned task studies or projects of which may cross-functional lines and may involve other government agencies or the industry.
  • Exercises full supervisory responsibilities and authority over CGIC non-supervisory intelligence analyst personnel. Plans, coordinates and oversees the effective development of CGIC programs. Manages intelligence efforts, investigations, strategies and technologies use to gather, analyze, and evaluate intelligence information.
  • Makes initial work assignments to subordinates ensuring efficiency and economy of intelligence operations. Ensures the field division’s intelligence efforts are coordinated with the field division SAC and all requests and referrals from OSII are responded to in a timely manner. Assist the SAC with creation and or modification of field division criminal intelligence collection priorities or an overall collection plan.
  • Ensure that field groups adhere to the field division collection plan or collection priorities. Ensure criminal intelligence developed within their field division is documented in N-FORCE in accordance with ATF O3800.2 and ensures proper utilization of the Request for Information (RFI) system in accordance with ATF O 7200.5.
  • Ensures criminal intelligence information reports, advisors, alerts, and assessments submitted by subordinates meet the standard reasonable indication. Ensures any member of the intelligence group properly document reports, advisors, alerts and assessments in N-FORCE. Coordinates with NRT and SRT team leaders to ensure the utilization of the CGIC to support NRT and SRT activation when warranted. Plans, coordinates and oversees the effective development of CGIC programs.

This is a non-bargaining unit position.

MOBILITY PLAN:  New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement.  The purpose of ATF’s mobility policy is to enhance career development and progression, and achieve mission and business effectiveness.  To accomplish these objectives, the mobility plan will facilitate the movement of employees through special short-term assignments or permanent reassignments throughout the Bureau. Qualifications

To qualify for GS-14 (starting salary is $132,368) candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13.

Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.  Examples of specialized experience include:

  • Coordinating with division supervisors, and National Response Team (NRT) and Special Response Team (SRT) leaders to ensure the utilization of the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) to support critical incidents and enforcement actions; and 
  • Advising Special Agent in Charge (SAC) and Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) on significant issues pertaining to CGIC program and projects, e.g., new initiatives, represent the field division in interagency meetings, conferences, and committees on intelligence issues and program initiatives; and develops field program and or project objectives, goals, resource requirements, and milestones for the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC); and
  • Providing leadership and guidance to the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) and directs, coordinates, or refers intelligence information that may cross- division geographic boundaries and may involve other government agencies or the industry; and
  • Managing intelligence efforts, investigations, strategies and technologies used to gather, analyze and evaluate intelligence information; and
  • Planning and scheduling work assignments to subordinates ensuring efficiency and economy of intelligence operations and products.
