Duties

Help

This position is located in the Office of Enforcement Programs and Services, Firearms and Ammunition Technology Division in Martinsburg,WV. 

The primary purpose of this position is to Serve as Chief, Firearms and Ammunition Technology Division and in this capacity is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the development of technical firearm standards and support of firearms enforcement programs in the Bureau.

***Telework eligible and will occur occasionally and at irregular intervals.***

As a Chief, Firearms and Ammunition Technology Division GS-1801-15 your typical work assignments may include:

  • Plans and manages division programs as they pertain to the firearms statutes within the jurisdiction of the Bureau; directs short and long-range program planning and projections; reviews budget forecasts and justifications; conducts comprehensive evaluations of Division goals, objectives, achievements, staffing, technology, operational and equipment requirements and organizational structure; develops division policies, procedures and guidelines in order to promote efficient and effective mission accomplishment.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with a wide range of officials from other Federal, State, local and international law enforcement agencies, executives in the private sector and domestic and foreign government officials interested in the Division's firearms programs, laws and regulations.
  • Interprets and implements firearms policies and regulations; keeps abreast of newly proposed or enacted legislation affecting the Division's programs projects, e.g., the examination, testing, evaluation and classification of firearms, ammunition and implements of war, etc. provides authoritative interpretations, instructions, and guidance to Division personnel.
  • Keeps abreast of initiatives and programs within the Bureau and in other Federal agencies in order to prevent duplication of programs and initiatives; and advises the Assistant Director, EPS of program changes and operations that may generate media or Congressional attention.
  • Oversees the development and or revision of directives that pertain to firearms programs and oversees the research and the dissemination of technical knowledge and advice relating to firearms matters to other Bureau offices, other Federal agencies, Federal, State, local and foreign law enforcement agencies and members of the firearms industry.     

ICTAP:  You are found well-qualified for this vacancy. Qualifications

To qualify for GS-15 starting salary is $155,700.00 candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14.

GS-15 – You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience, performing the following duties:

  • Providing leadership and supervision to a team; AND
  • Applying in-depth knowledge of laws/regulations governing the Bureau's regulatory law and enforcement operations, pertaining to the firearms regulatory mission; AND
  • Providing advice and guidance, serving as liaison, presenting briefings, preparing and representing an organization in a variety of internal and external forums; AND
  • Evaluating programs or projects to analyze, evaluate, and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization and making recommendations for changes or improvements; AND
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with counterparts in order to promote cooperation and collaboration on program initiatives and policy implementation; AND
  • Providing program direction and support for a major Division or comparable organizational entity.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.
