Duties

Help

In this position, you will serve as the agency's nationally recognized expert and authority for the fields of Design and Creative Placemaking, managing grant programs, national leadership initiatives, and partnerships that advance the integration of arts, culture, and design into efforts that strengthen communities. The incumbent reports to the Senior Advisor for Partnerships, Expansion, and Innovation. Typical work assignments include:

  • Participating in formulation of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to implement legislation affecting the National Endowment for the Arts and design and creative placemaking fields.
  • Presenting the agency's position on issues to field experts and other constituents.
  • Serving as the agency's representative on matters affecting the Design and Creative Placemaking fields.
  • Managing a team of staff responsible for various tasks including reviewing grant applications, assembling panels, and processing grants, and completing these same tasks as Director.
  • Providing professional leadership and guidance on the development of strategic partnerships, initiatives and programs.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Minimum Qualification/Specialized Experience requirements as noted below.

Specialized Experience:GS-15: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level (starting salary $148,484) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level performing the following duties:

  1. Reviewing or preparing grant proposals for Design and Creative Placemaking or a related field (including, but not limited to: Urban Design, Cultural Planning, Arts Engagement);
  2. Assisting leadership with preparation for Design and Creative Placemaking panels and meetings;
  3. Leading or managing Design or Creative Placemaking programs or initiatives;
  4. Leading and directing a team and/or subordinate staff (i.e. assigning work, developing performance standards, making authoritative decisions regarding personnel actions, etc.).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
