Duties

Help
  • Establish NASA's design department which includes developing standards for production, productivity, quality, and client service.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of designers and creative professionals, including serving as a leader in the agency design community of practice.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in development of highly effective creative and design concepts rooted in communications strategy and audience targeting.
  • Take work from concept to final execution within deadlines and budget. Manage workflow and provide direction to design team and vendors.
  • Produce and art-direct sketches, storyboards, layouts, and other visualizations to illustrate creative visions and concepts. Present concepts and creative vision to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with leadership, designers, writers, engagement team members, and stakeholders to ensure the appropriate concepts, themes, and messages are represented effectively and consistently with the communications objectives and audience(s).
  • Develop, design and art direct brand identity packages and campaigns, including print, digital, out-of-home, video, social and collateral. Oversee the design of high-level presentations and templates.
  • Conceptualize, design and art direct interactive experiences and exhibits.
  • Develop creative briefs based on strategy and audience targeting, including creative direction, schedules, and deliverables for the creative team. Manage approval and production process.
  • Manage and oversee NASA's graphics standards in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR 1221.1H).

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level:

  • leading design team(s) in the development and design of brand identity packages and marketing/communications campaigns and products for major national or global brand(s);
  • leading design team(s) in the development and design of exhibits and/or interactive experiences for major national or global brand(s) or institution(s); and
  • creating design products with attention to business goals and objectives, including strategy and audience targeting.
