Duties

Help

As a Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for helping teams craft and hone the message of each oversight report, ensuring products are clear and visually appealing, and editing for readability including:

  • Lead and direct the development and implementation of products to foster collaboration through extensive research, writing, and editing communication materials. Writes and edits audit and investigative reports, as well as detailed briefings and communication material for leadership to present to Congress, the Department, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure the quality and consistency of all external communications, including speeches, briefings, and presentations delivered by OIG to varied audiences, often including very high-ranking participants requiring diplomacy and skillful handling in information sharing, negotiations, and persuasiveness in presenting work products.
  • Develop communication plans that identify target audiences, include appropriate messaging, and specify the resources needed for effective communication, management of expectations, and reporting on project progress.
  • Advises the Deputy Inspector General and the Director of Editorial Services on the redesign of current information products and the need for new ones to effectively communicate information about OIG's mission and activities to key stakeholders and stakeholder groups.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • conducting detailed analyses of information requests to prepare or coordinate the preparation of products based upon existing agency requirements; AND
  • integrating information into a variety of formats such as graphs, tables, and webpages. AND
  • completing final reviews of proposed publications for style, design, layout, and editorial aspects before release.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13 level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
