Duties

Help
  • Train system users on new or changed operating systems, IT equipment, software and application of information assurance/security policies and guidelines.
  • Maintain liaison with key functional specialists to explain considerations, applications and assistance in support of customer needs.
  • Ensure customer system configurations and automation plans are fully compatible with other communications and networking initiatives within the supported activities.
  • Control hardware and software configurations (including version levels) for supported systems.
  • Ensure that proper installation procedures are followed including current operating systems Software upgrades and patches are applied.
  • Identify areas of the network in conjunction with the building wiring architecture that will need expansion or modification.
  • Troubleshoot all network related Information Technology problems and determines whether cable, equipment, or operations are the problem.
  • Assist with the installation, set up, upgrade and configuring of various types of networking equipment and peripherals.
  • Analyze standard techniques to determine ways to improve network link relocation/modification.

  • SECURITY CLEARANCE - This position has been designated as non-critical sensitive as defined in DOD 5200.2-R. The incumbent is required to possess or obtain and maintain, for the duration of employment, a Secret security clearance.
  • EMERGENCY ESSENTIAL- The incumbent is required to perform the duties and requirements of the position in the event of a crisis until relieved by proper authority. Essential Position Agreement, DD Form 2365, must be completed prior to deployment.
  • IMMUNIZATION SCREENING- This position requires immunization with the complete Anthrax vaccination series and subsequent annual boosters.
  • MEDICAL EXAMINATION- This position requires you to satisfactorily complete a medical examination for deployment.
  • PASSPORT AND VISA- This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain an official US passport and VISA as applicable based on duty location.
  • WORK SCHEDULE ? This position may entail extended work shifts that last 12-16 hours a day. Lack of sleep may occur due to long working hours.
  • LIVING CONDITIONS - The incumbent's living conditions range from having all basic amenities such as including utilities such as: light, power, water, and refrigeration; to having none of these amenities.
  • INFORMATION ASSURANCE - The Information Assurance Technical (IAT) level for this position is IAT II and is required within 6 months of being appointed to the position.

Qualifications

NOTE: This position will have an initial cut-off for referral 2 weeks from date announcement opens; applicants who apply on or before the cut-off date of 02 Feb 2023 will be considered first. Applications will be reviewed and referred for selection as vacancies occur within the organization.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience: maintaining software and/or hardware applications; resolving customer issues; and providing a comprehensive overview of how to avoid future problems by implementing mitigating processes.

My specialized experience includes, or was supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined:
(1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: completing thorough and accurate work independently, even in the most difficult or stressful situations; occasionally reviewing work completed by others;
(2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: resolving routine and non-routine problems, questions, or complaints; developing and maintaining strong, mutually supportive working relationships with customers; conducting evaluation of support to determine quality of services and customer satisfaction, and recommending procedural changes based on customer need or changes in policy and/or regulation;
(3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: convincingly conveying complex information to customers; presenting thoughts that are well-organized and demonstrating confidence in the facts and ideas; adjusting style when working with individuals with different levels of understanding; using various methods to explain and convey information; and
(4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: solving complex or sensitive problems by developing and proposing strategic alternatives; identifying possible conflicts and shared benefits; helping team anticipate problems and identifying and evaluating potential sources of information; providing feedback and coaching to others to help solve problems; engaging appropriate stakeholders when developing solutions in order to understand and incorporate multiple perspectives and needs; evaluating the effectiveness of decisions and adjusting future decisions as appropriate.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). All qualification requirements must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
