Help

Serves as Professor of Information Technology (Cybersecurity) in support of the DAU mission.

  • Develops, plans, coordinates, and evaluates cybersecurity training/education courses, methods, and techniques based on instructional needs and in the context of Defense acquisition programs.
  • Develop, tailor and deliver interactive workshops for specific DoD customers across the Department in order to support Defense acquisition programs and personnel with Cybersecurity and Cyber Warfare learning and consulting efforts and products.
  • Deliver presentations, case studies, and simulations at DAU and customer facilities (classified and unclassified), in the classroom and at conferences. This includes facilitating student discussion, critical thinking/problem solving as well as analyzing student assessments and providing student counseling to insure the highest degree of learning.
  • Integrate cybersecurity course material into new and existing DAU classes and career fields.
  • Maintain cybersecurity expertise in emerging areas.
  • Teaching and curriculum development responsibilities include virtual, DAU classroom, and teaching at customer facilities. Offerings may include:
  • Cybersecurity workshops
  • Cyber Training Range workshops (offensive, defensive, and advanced cybersecurity topics)
  • Cyber Table Top facilitator workshops
  • Tailored cybersecurity training based on customer requests and needs
  • On-line cybersecurity courses
  • Other acquisition courses based on career field certification and demand (examples: IT Engineering, Test)
  • Program Protection workshops
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Extensive, in-depth knowledge of current DoD, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), -Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), and government-wide cybersecurity laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidance.
  • Knowledge of "state-of-the-art" network and/or platform IT architecture designs, interfaces, protocols, practices, and principles as they relate and interface with information management systems, cybersecurity and DoD acquisition systems.

Faculty Duties:
  • Creates and/or delivers learning assets and content as needed, and coordinates with partner divisions that manage related curriculum, or that control DAU processes and tools.
  • Stays abreast of changes and trends in primary functional area, continuously researching, gaining and sharing knowledge in federal communities of practice.
  • Pursues and maintains digital and data analysis fluency that align with DAU and primary functional area best practices in public and private industry.
  • Maintains currency in, and actively uses university technology, digital and social media platforms.
  • Focus on the needs of the customer in a modern learning and business environment that is subject to continual change with respect to platforms, networks and delivery
  • Serves as a thinking partner with stakeholders and customers, continuously improving product and service delivery to provide the right knowledge and service the point of need through synchronous and asynchronous methods.
  • Builds relationships and collaborates with peers and program management leaders from all organizations within the area of responsibility.
  • Elicits feedback to shape the policies, processes and procedures that produce a frictionless experience for the customers and stakeholders.

  • The incumbent of this position may be required to work overtime, irregular shifts, and/or on the weekend.
  • Work may require travel away from the normal duty station on commercial aircraft.
  • Certification in DAWIA within a required time-frame will vary and is required. Certification category level is dependent upon the grade/band level to which the incumbent is selected for.
  • Must achieve 80 hours of Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) every two years, in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 5000.66, Defense Acquisition Workforce Education, Training, Experience, and Career Development Program.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at a respective band/grade level, you must demonstrate in your resume/application that you possess the required years of specialized experience equivalent to one band/grade-level lower (or equivalent) to include having specialized experience directly relating to the specific duties of the position, and demonstrate that you have the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully with the experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge. Specialized experience areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Extensive, in-depth knowledge of current DoD, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), and government-wide cybersecurity laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidance.
  • Knowledge of "state-of-the-art" network and/or platform IT architecture designs, interfaces, protocols, practices, and principles as they relate and interface with information management systems, cybersecurity and DoD acquisition systems.

In addition to the above qualifications, the following has been determined to be Quality Ranking Factors (QRF). Applicants who possess QRFs are considered to be Well-Qualified:
  • BS or MS degree in a technical discipline such as, cybersecurity, or engineering.
  • Acquisition Certification in the Information Technology or Engineering Career Field.
  • Cybersecurity Certifications meeting DoD Directive 8570.01-M Level III standards, such as CISSP, CCSP, Cloud Plus, Security Plus, CEH, and others.
  • Experience, consulting, and/or teaching ability and at least two areas related to cybersecurity. These areas may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Cyber Resiliency
  • Cyber Survivability
  • Systems Security Engineering
  • DoD Acquisition Cybersecurity Policy
  • Risk Management Framework
  • Cybersecurity Acquisition Documentation (SOW, SPEC, CDRLs)
  • Oversight of Development Contractor Cybersecurity Programs
  • Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)
  • Supply Chain Risk Management
  • Software Assurance
  • Secure Cloud Computing
  • Zero Trust Principles and Architecture

  • Cybersecurity Test & Evaluation, including Mission Based Cyber Risk Assessments (examples: Cyber Table Top, CJA, MIRA and MRAP-C)
  • Threat-based Engineering
  • Information Systems Security Manager/Officer/Engineer (ISSM, ISSO, ISSE)
  • Adversarial and cooperative testing (Red teams and/or blue teams)
  • DEVSECOPS
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Education

DAU Faculty Pay Band Minimum Education and Specialized Experience Requirements:

  • DAU Pay Band A (AD-11) (Equivalent to a GS-09 through GS-13 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
    • Basic requirements for Band A include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree and up to four years of experience in the appropriate functional area.
  • DAU Pay Band B (AD-12) (Equivalent to a GS-14 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
    • Basic requirements for Band B include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree in an appropriate discipline and a minimum of six years of experience in the appropriate functional area. Advanced degrees are highly desired in Band B.
  • DAU Pay Band C (AD-13) (Equivalent to a GS-15 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
    • Basic requirements for Band C include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree in an appropriate discipline and a minimum of eight years of experience in the appropriate functional area. Advanced degrees are highly desired in Band C.
Please note: Technical certifications and/or experience may be approved by the DAU Chief of Staff (delegated from the DAU President) to meet the needs of the University.

Initial appointment is made for a period of three years, conditional upon satisfactory completion of a DAU probationary period of two years. At the one year mark, as part of an annual review, consideration is given to extending the appointment; thus at any one time moving beyond that point an employee will have two years remaining.
