  • Receives training on and uses software and information systems to perform work assignments.
  • Assists others in performing a variety of routine tasks to gain experience and technical competence in the methods, procedures, principles, theories, and techniques utilized in administering RD loan and grant programs.
  • Providing information to the public; initiating and preparing correspondence; maintaining records, reports and files.
  • Assisting in application processing and servicing for Single Family (SFH) loans and grants, and/or Community Program (CP) loans and grants, and/or Business Program (BP) loans and grants.

  • Complete at least 640 hours of current continuous employment prior to completion of degree and conversion.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

For the GS-03 grade level: Applicants must have completed 1 full academic year of post-high school study.

For the GS-04 grade level: Applicants must have completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study.

For the GS-05 level: Applicants must have completed4 full academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.

Conversion: In addition to meeting the program requirements for conversion, an applicant converting to a Loan Assistant/Specialist, GS-1165-05/07/09/11 is required to also meet the OPM Qualification Standards for the GS-1165 series.

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- finance, business administration, economics, accounting, insurance, engineering, mathematics, banking and credit, law, real estate operations, statistics, or other fields related to the position, such as agriculture, agricultural economics, farm, livestock or ranch management, or rural sociology.

Additional information

Post-secondary students hired under this announcement will initially be appointed to a term appointment in the competitive service for a period expected to last more than 1 year not to exceed 4 years; they may be non-competitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment within 120 days of successfully completing the qualifying academic program.

Student Interns must continue to meet the requirements throughout the duration of the appointment. Incumbents will be required to provide proof of continued enrollment and good standing (as Defined by the educational institution),each semester or grading period throughout the internship program. Failure to do so will result in termination of the appointment.

Interns may work flexible schedules under supervisor approval. Interns may be non-competitively converted to a career-conditional or career appointment within 120 days following successful completion of all their educational and work requirements (work experience hours, satisfactory performance, educational requirements, mandatory training completion, etc.) You may be non-competitively converted to a career­ conditional or career appointment within 120 days to a: Loan Assistant/Specialist (Realty), GS-1165-05/07/09/11 career ladder position.

The full performance level (FPL) of the position to which converted may be up to the GS-11 level.
