The program is multi-faceted and is directed at the reduction of wildlife damage as it relates to agriculture, human health and safety, public and private property, and natural resources.
The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Plan and implement field, computer modeling, and laboratory studies with limited input from the Supervisor.
Manage work meant to develop tools and methods applicable to solving problems inflicted by vertebrates.
Develop investigations and fully participate in the entire research process, to include field work, laboratory trials, data collection and analysis, and write reports and presentations.
Design and conduct studies devised to determine biological and behavioral attributes and characteristics of wildlife species; to include feeding ecology, movement, range, and population.
Individuals who were born male after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

FOR THE GS-11 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-09 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Demonstrated ability to conduct scientific experiments and to publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
Experience working with semi-aquatic rodents (e.g., muskrat, nutria, beaver).
Demonstrated ability to perform common field studies, including trapping and/or handling mammals such as semi-aquatic rodents.
OR
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree directly related to the position.
