Duties

Help

Conduct regular mobile and foot patrols to check building physical security, fence line perimeters and provide visible security presence.
Control access points into the installation/Federal property and restricted areas to identify security risks.
Perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders and regulatory requirement guidelines.
Prepare written reports to document all incidents as they occur on the installation.
Respond to incidents to prevent theft, damage, accidents, trespassing, sabotage and espionage in accordance with the appropriate regulations.
Provide emergency response during base closures, active shooter responses and physical security response in support of installation Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) measures.
Operate two-way communication equipment to summon emergency vehicles and crews when assistance is needed.

  • This position requires the employee to meet and maintain the Individual Personnel Reliability Program standards and the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program standards Within one year of appointment.
  • Must have a physical examination annually, to assess continued ability for effective performance, and will be required to pass the current Physical Agility Test annually.
  • Position requires Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) certification.
  • Must successfully pass the Physical Agility Test (PAT) and sign a statement acknowledging have been so advised.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must wear prescribed uniform.
  • Must wear protective/chemical mask and other protective clothing and equipment.
  • Must work in all types of weather.
  • Must be on call 24 hours/7days a week.
  • Must work mandatory overtime.
  • Must complete 8-12 hours of training each month and be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week. Provides immediate response to situations such as terrorist threat, and other special threat situations to surety sites and other locations on post.
  • Up to 10% business travel may be required.
  • Position requires Guard to input time into ATAAPS.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for the GS-6: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is defined as 1. Conducting maintenance, both routine and operation of all assigned weapons and related equipment (e.g., handguns, shotguns, police baton, and handcuffs), 2. Implementing law enforcement policies, procedures, and techniques, operating a variety of communication and electronics; AND 3. Utilizing surveillance systems and equipment such as radios, transmitters, CCTVs and intrusion detection systems. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education
