Help
  • Trainee performs a variety of assignments in carrying out the overall district policies and procedures concerning the natural resource management and conservation.
  • Assist with habitat management activities such as prescribed burnings, reforestation, native grass plantings, edge development, shoreline erosion abatements, wildlife food plantings, and the establishment of underwater structures.
  • Provides visitor assistance, including responding to emergency calls and investigates accidents, complaints, disturbances, and other problem
  • Explain and enforce rules and regulations to project visitors and disseminates project information.
  • Assist in the preparation of real estate compliance reports.
  • Investigate and reports to supervisor any trespass or other violations, describes the extent of any problem, and reports the name of witnesses and/or trespassers when possible.

Qualifications

To be eligible for consideration you must meet the definition of a post-secondary student as defined below: Your transcripts or proof of enrollment will be required as part of your application package. And Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.

Post-Secondary Student: a person who, (1) is currently enrolled in, and in good academic standing at, a full-time program at an institution of higher education; and (2) is making satisfactory progress towards receipt of a baccalaureate or graduate degree; and (3) has completed at least two year of the program. Position may be converted to permanent after completion of degree without competition, following Office of Personnel Management regulatory requirements.

Degree:
biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify for a GS-04, students must have completed two full academic years of post-high school study or have an associate's degree.
I am a current student in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate on a full or half time basis. Student Trainee Responsibilities:

  • Provide proof of enrollment necessary
  • Notify the agency of any change in your enrollment status and/or work schedule
  • Maintain at least a half-time course load as defined by the educational institution
  • Remain in good academic standing
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.0 and above
  • Adhere to an established work schedule
  • Adhere to the Intern Program requirements
