Help

As an Events and Communication Specialist, you will:

  • Be responsible for the planning, logistics, and execution of Access Board virtual and in-person public events, including bimonthly Board meetings, hearings, briefings, town halls, information sessions, and presentations, to inform the public on accessible design and acquire feedback from the public on accessibility.
  • In cooperation with the Executive Director and Public Affairs Specialist, develop informational material for the agency's events and services to appropriate users by way of brochures, postcards, formal invitations, and personal visits to prospective users.
  • Develop multimedia content in all stages of the process (pre-, live, and post-) of the event to publicize the event to diverse audiences.
  • Utilize multiple social media platforms as well as social media management tools to convey information and publicize the agency and its events.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Key Requirements:
  • Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 calendar days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience

For the GS-09
, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:

  • Planning, coordinating, supporting and/or implementing events such as board meetings, hearings, briefings, town halls, information sessions; AND
  • Writing and releasing materials for public consumption such as brochures, postcards, formal invitations; AND
  • Manages a multimedia and/or social media presence for an organization; AND
  • Prepares reports for special programs and events.
OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.

OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
  • Assisting with planning, coordinating, supporting and/or implementing events such as Board meetings, hearings, briefings, town halls, information sessions; AND
  • Writing and releasing materials for public consumption brochures, postcards, formal invitations, and official use of social media, etc; AND
  • Prepares reports for special programs and events.
OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
One full year of graduate level education; or Superior Academic Achievement based on a Bachelors degree that is demonstrated through class standing (upper 1/3 of class); grade point average (3.0/4.0 overall or 3.5/4.0 in major), or election to membership in a qualifying national scholastic honor society.

OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-09, you must have been at the GS-07 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-05 level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
