Duties

Help

The CFTC is currently hiring students under the Pathways Program.  The CFTC offers substantive work that gives interns an opportunity to demonstrate their skills through work experience.  Students will be assigned to work with CFTC staff members on projects and assignments that cover a broad range of administrative functions.

Interns may be placed in one of our Mission Support Offices.  Duties may include:

  • Performs various analytical assignments supporting special or ongoing projects, assists senior staff in consolidating data to prepare reports, and review and analyze dashboard/program activities.
  • Develops and coordinates a variety of reports, actions, and correspondence applying concepts, principles, practices, and procedures of administrative actions and program analysis.
  • Collects, researches, and develops data-based findings and conclusions
  • Ability to present and communicate in writing and orally accurate information to a diverse audience.
  • Attends meetings and conferences.
  • Uses automated tools to process and track requests. Identifies feasible work management approaches that address required activities and timelines.
  • Collects relevant information that is aligned with objectives and meets the goals.
  • Conducts analyses aligned with tasks, identifies relevant information, patterns/inconsistencies, trends/relationships, interdependencies, and potential implications.
  • Communicates relevant and accurate information during formal or informal presentations, meetings, or interviews.
  • Collaborates with Analysts/Specialists and other team members to address issues and/or concerns, and will follow up to ensure needs are met.
  • Contributes to team efforts through participation in activities/meetings, soliciting and listening to others' opinions, and working collaboratively to accomplish team goals.
  • Uses office automation software to produce and prepare various materials such as spreadsheets, plans, procedures, memoranda, letters, charts, databases, and presentations.

Qualifications

Pathways Internship Program Qualifications:                                                                                                                                          Students must meet the qualifications requirements by May 31, 2023.  The Summer Program will begin Jun 5,2023 thru September 30, 2023.   Appointments are NOT TO EXCEED 90 days.

Basic Education Requirements:

  1. A completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree.

To qualify for this position at the grade 07 level, applicants must meet the following:

  • Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education by May 31,2023; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision, as described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual for Qualification Standards; and completion of a bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position as listed in the basic education requirements.  

To qualify for this position at the grade 09 level, applicants must meet the following:

  • Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree by May 31, 2023.
