Duties

Help
  • Use agile software development methodologies to design, develop, and maintain selected portions of Air Defense Artillery (ADA) and Field Artillery (FA) simulations that accurately represent major systems critical to conduct ADA and FA operations.
  • Apply state-of-the-art Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) and/or High Level Architecture (HLA) technologies to Air Defense Artillery and Field Artillery simulation designs.
  • Demonstrate detailed knowledge of and experience with large scale digital simulations, digital computers, operating systems, high-level programming languages, tactical data system software, and/or networks and network protocols.
  • Produce clear, concise software documentation to achieve complete history of simulation developments.
  • Provide accurate assessments, both written and oral, of in-house artillery simulation capabilities and limitations within area of expertise.

  • Temporary Duty (TDY) travel is 30 percent.
  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Expenses may be authorized.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R "Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the drug abuse testing program".

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Computer Scientist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in computer science or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience for GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes the following: Develop software requirement documents; Develop simulation models or programming for prototype software systems; and perform engineering/computer science assignments that include testing and monitoring system components.
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: computer science (NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience for GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes the following:Develop new or maintain current software systems; Determine the need for hardware/software upgrades; and Modify standard practices and adapt equipment or techniques to resolve problems regarding assigned systems and projects.
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as computer science. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.


Specialized Experience for GS-12: One year of specialized experience which includes the following: Design or develop simulations or equally complex software; Use the Distributed Interactive Simulation or High Level Architecture technologies or other distributed software frameworks; and Possess experience working with digital simulations, digital computers, operating systems, programming languages and/or tactical data system software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job (GS-12), you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
