Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assure the most effective delivery of care in wound care, while meeting and exceeding compliance standards.
  • Evaluation and treatment of all wound care patients within the hospital both in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Work closely with and coordinate the care provided by a team of wound care nurses, medical and surgical specialists as well as other support staff.
  • Answer consultations, evaluate medical and surgical comorbidities that might be related to the wound and manage coordination of care within the VA as well as with community providers.
  • Conduct daily clinics, perform local wound care procedures.
  • Oversee the administration of medications to patients.
  • Order diagnostic testing.
  • Attend Medicine/Surgery Service staff meetings as well as meetings of the medical staff.
  • Completes medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff.
  • Work with multiple Divisions/Services throughout the facility to improve outcomes and efficiencies.
  • Collaborates on a frequent basis with nursing and others to facilitate the operations of the ICUs/wards/ECU, etc. to meet common goals.
  • Performs the administrative components of patient care management, such as: dictation of progress notes, OP reports, discharge summaries; signatures; and consultation referrals for both in-patients and outpatients; etc.
  • Participates in ward/ICU rounds, morbidity and mortality conferences, grand rounds, Joint Commission (JC) activities, and any other relevant activities.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Meets continuing education requirements.
  • Establishes and promotes an atmosphere of unity through collaborative practice and effective communication between all staff disciplines. Fosters a high level of patient and staff satisfaction.
  • Supervise and train physician assistants, residents, and medical student trainees.
  • Participates in research activities in order to promote the delivery of emerging treatments to the Veteran population and for the advancement of science.
Work Schedule: The primary tour of duty will be 8:00 am-4:30 pm Monday-Friday; some activities will occur outside VA administrative hours. Telework: Not Available

Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 11 paid Federal holidays per year.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Podiatrist Basic Requirements

  • Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~
  • Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~
  • Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
